My little guy just loves to do crafts and make just about anything and I found a few Earth Day Crafts from some great bloggers!  Check them all out… I am hoping you can make one or even a few.

Colin Picture

While planning my grandpa’s funeral.. My family kept asking if I wanted to buy a Pillow or something special to put with my grandpa.  I know how pricey anything can get with a funeral so I did not hesitate to say no.  My son loves to make art and has made one pretty much anytime my grandpa was sick or in the hospital.  So my son got busy and made this super cute drawing for his “Pop”.  All it cost us was a few pieces of paper.. crayon and love :)   This will be with my grandpa his great grandpa “Pop” forever!

This too allows for the child to feel like they have some part of the remembrance of that person too!

So to me.. The simple gifts mean the most to me.  I know that if my grandpa could see it.. He would cherish the art over a pillow or trinket anytime!  So if you want to give something to someone special.. Think simple and from the heart!

Frame

As most of you know, I lost my grandpa on April 5th.  Since loosing my parents in High School…My grandpa was more of a Father than a grandpa.  In fact, when I was younger I lived with my grandparents for several years.  My “Pop” has also become my son’s best friend.  They have had so many great times together!  My family wanted to display pictures at the visitation and funeral and looked to me.  They were thinking a poster or foam board.. I am not into scrapbooking nor can I.  If I tried to attempt it… it would look like a 5 year old make it.. So I thought about this frame idea!  This frame cost me around $33 to make (not including the prints) but you can make it cheaper with a thrift deal on a frame!

Supplies:

  • Large Frame (I bought my at Hobby Lobby.. was $47.99 but half off so just $24.   Or keep an eye out at thrift stores.  if you love the frame but hate the color or it is beat up a bit.. Spray Paint is a great product ;)
  • Burlap (I bought one Yard which was just enough for my large frame $3.99 a yard)
  • Thin rope like ribbon One Spool (Was $1.99 a spool at Hobby Lobby)
  • Mini Wooden Clothes Pins (Found these for $2.99 for a pack of 50 at Hobby Lobby.. I had to ask where they were since I found some that were $3.99 for less and had bling on them)
  • Staple Gun
  • Photos (I had all different sizes and colors.. largest one being a 4×6)

Directions:

  1. Layout the Thin Rope Ribbon where you want it (we took our tallest Photo and used it for the spacing. With my frame I was able to have three rows).  Then using a staple gun.. Staple the Rope Ribbon on each side of the frame.  We added two staples to each size.  Make sure to pull the ribbon tight too.  When you add photos it will sag a bit.  Love the look but if your ribbon is not tight enough.. will sag a lot.
  2. Layout your frame back side up.  Layout the Burlap.. I cut off a bit of the excess.  Staple each side of the Burlap.  After you get one side.. If you can have someone help keep the Burlap tight when you staple.  We put a staple about every inch or so.
  3. Layout your photos the way you want them.  Then add them to the “Clothesline” using the mini clothes pins.  I used two per picture too.
  4. Enjoy your finished frame!
